Man Saves Greek Village With Wine After Water Runs Out
When the water ran out, with flames still high around his house, George Dimopoulos switched to wine.
The same wine he made two years ago. He poured liter after liter, more than 200 liters in all, into his small hand-pumped crop sprayer and sprayed as his village had all but burnt down.
"I had nothing else," the 63-year-old Dimopoulos tells a local paper.
His wine did quite well, it helped save his life, his house and possibly his neighborhood.
However, the village next door wasn't so fortunate and its death toll accounts for nearly half the 63 people now reported dead in the Greece fires.
