British Man Has Been Coughing For Last 13 Years

Brit Nicholas Peake has baffled experts by coughing 100 times an hour for the last 13 years.

The university lecturer says his conversations with friends, students, colleagues and wife Mary-Rose are interrupted as his throat becomes irritated, making him cough repeatedly.

And the only way he can manage his condition is by continuously chewing gum - which he hates.

57-year-old Nicholas tells the UK's 'Mirror': "I've seen consultants, had tests and tried everything from acupuncture and homeopathy to new drugs. I even spent months in the Amazon, time in the Alps and other places - but it goes on. I get about 15 minutes in the morning before it begins. If I wake up in the middle of the night and start, there's no way I'll get back to sleep. Apart from the coughing, I'm fairly healthy."

Nicholas has now been asked to come into Wythenshawe Hospital which is working on developing new treatments for coughs but he isn't holding out much hope for a cure.
