British Couple Receives Phone Bill For 87,000
A couple in the UK were left stunned after receiving a phone bill for more than 87,000 ($175,000).
The 'Daily Post' reports the bill was dropped onto the doormat of Tyrone and Dawn Chadwick in North Wales.
It showed the Chadwicks were charged 74,585.39 plus VAT (tax) for a mere seven minute phone call to Chester.
Wife Dawn told the paper: "We felt slightly more than horrified. My husband had had a heart attack just after Christmas. If he had opened the envelope, he would have had another one. Our stress levels are quite high."
"I tried ringing BT (the phone company). First they said it was genuine."
"Then they said they thought it was a mistake and they would look into it."
"We only rang Chester 30 miles up the road. This bill was beyond ridiculous. Our normal bill is only 35 a month."
The phone company has now apologised to the Chadwicks and blamed the massive bill on a 'computer error'.
Spokesman Jason Mann tells the paper: "We are arranging for the whole bill of 87,749.85 to be waived."
