Police Officer Fired After Letting Woman Go In Exchange For Sex
A police officer in Cedar Rapids, Iowa has agreed he will never wear a law enforcement uniform anywhere again, according to a deal reached between him and the government.
The agreement is part of a guilty plea 36-year-old Kevin Sims made to a federal misdemeanor charge after he admitted that while he was on duty as a police officer, he intentionally excused a ticket in return for sex with the woman following a traffic stop.
Sims admitted he was a patrol officer when he stopped at a bar about 1 AM to conduct a bar check. While there he greeted a woman he knew from previous bar checks.
Then half an hour later, he used the emergency lights on his police car to stop the woman as she left the bar for a routine stop.
But the woman didn't have a valid license, and was driving on a suspended license. However, rather than follow procedure and take her identification and call the dispatcher to verify her driving status, he took Sims took her to Daniels Park.
At the park Sims and the woman had sex while Sims was still on duty, in his police uniform with his firearm still in his holster.
He said the woman 'voluntarily' engaged in the acts believing that by doing so she would escape any criminal charges. So he didn't arrest the woman or issue a citation for driving on a suspended license.
He now faces up to a year in prison and a $1,000 fine.
