Town Tells Officials To Bring Their Own Toilet Paper To Work
Judges, prosecutors and other court officials in the Belgian town of Bruges have been told to bring their own toilet paper to work due to a protest by the supplier.
The scandal has quickly taken on national proportions, with the justice minister blaming the previous administration for not taking care of the 'paperwork'.
A sign on the toilet doors put it very simply and warned toilet-goers "there is no more paper."
The normal suppliers to the courts have stopped making deliveries due to what they said were unpaid bills of several thousand euros.
An emergency supply of twenty rolls was delivered this week, but the company warned that normal service would not resumed until the bills were paid.
"This might seem to be a minor problem, but in fact it's an important issue. The public justice service, which condemns people for not paying their bills, is guilty of the same thing," said Leo De Bock, spokesperson for Belgian Justice Minister. "This is a problem inherited from the last government and it is not acceptable."
An internal inquiry has been opened to assertain why the toilet roll bills were not paid.
