Obscenity Charges Dropped Against Underwear-Less Italian Man

An Italian man who said he went commando because of his wide girth is resting easier after a court dropped obscenity charges resulting from an embarrassing moment while shopping.

Italy's ANSA news agency reports that the man was inside a supermarket reaching up to a shelf when his pants split at the seam -- revealing nothing but his bare bottom to people below.

Outraged, a couple of women standing below screamed in horror.

Police soon rushed to the scene expecting the worst and arrested the man on suspicion of committing an obscene act in a public place, believing he had planned the incident.

Defending himself in a court the man said that due to an obesity problem, he could not find underwear in his size and had coincidentally gone to the supermarket that very day to see if he could find something that would fit.

The judge decided to drop the charges, and let the man go free. No word on the outcome of his underwear search.
