Declaration Of Independence Signing Sculpture In Cheese
This year you'll find a sculpture of the signing of the Declaration of Independence made from a one-tonne block of cheddar cheese on the sidewalk of Times Square in New York.
The artist, Troy Landwehr, says the cheese sculpture is a tribute to the Fourth of July: "It's very patriotic, using the signing of the Declaration of Independence, bringing Americans together for the Fourth."
Troy worked eight hours a day for a week in a 40-degree cooler carving the block of Wisconsin cheddar, which was sponsored by Cheez-It.
"The cheddar has been pasteurized and will not melt," he says. "What I spray on it is cooking oil and that stops it from drying out and cracking," he said. "It actually preserves the cheese."
He says putting the cheese on display will actually help it age faster, after which it will to be donated to food pantries so it won't go to waste.
The replica of the iconic painting shows John Adams, John Hancock, Benjamin Franklin and others standing around a table signing the historic document.
