World Record Sandwich Eaten By Crowd Before Being Measured
Iran failed to register what it said would be the world's largest sandwich in the Guinness book of World Records after people rushed forward and began eating it -- before it was measured by officials.
Event organizers had planned to stuff the 1,500-meter-long sandwich with 700 kg of ostrich meat and 700 kg of chicken, and display it in a park in the capital Tehran.
More than 1,000 volunteers worked hard to make the sandwich, with meat supplied by local ostrich farmers eager to promote their produce as an alternative to traditional Iranian offerings.
However, the waiting got too much for thousands of spectators waiting in Tehran's Mellat park, and the crowd started attacking the sandwich before any of the three Guinness representatives present had the chance to confirm its length.
Chaos ensued and the giant snack was gone in minutes, leaving the three Guinness representatives present shocked.
One of the event's organizers said video footage of the sandwich would be sent to Guinness officials to see if something can be salvaged from the attempt.
Organizers insist "the sandwich will be recorded in the Guinness book because of all the evidence and footage that we will send them."
