Cash Stash In Bra Stops Bullet From Piercing Heart

Police say a wad of cash stuffed in a woman's bra saved her life during a shootout in northeastern Brazil.

Police spokesman Vicente de Paula says 58-year-old Ivonete Pereira de Oliveira was a passenger on a bus that two gunmen held up on Saturday in Salvador.

An armed off-duty policeman on the bus opened fire. However, in the ensuing gunbattle a bullet struck the left side of Oliveira's chest.

Fortunately, for Oliveira she had 150 reals ($70) worth of bills stashed inside her bra.

De Paula says that wad of bills that she hid inside her bra likely saved her life because it slowed the bullet just enough to prevent it from entering her heart and killing her instantly.

Oliveira underwent surgery to remove the bullet from her left breast and has since been released from the hospital.
