College Student Jailed For Attempt To Steal Jail Computer
There are good places to commit a theft, bad places to commit a theft and then there is the worst possible place to commit a theft.
Western Michigan University student William K. Bradley definitely chose the worst.
Bradley has been sentenced for stealing a computer from the Kalamazoo County jail -- the same jail where he was already serving a sentence in a different case.
He took a computer that had been delivered to the jail -- was still in the box -- put it in a trash bag and placed the bag behind large garbage bins for later pickup, in an area that is monitored by security cameras. When the computer was discovered missing, video of the garage showed Bradley had taken it from there.
Kalamazoo County Circuit Judge Gary Giguere Jr. sentenced Bradley this week and told him his jailhouse theft was "the dumbest crime I've heard today" and "may be in the top half-dozen in my career."
"You need to get a handle on this theft thing," he added. "Your life of crime is not working out. Where do I put you? Back in the jail where the crime occurred?"
Bradley said he has been to counseling for stealing because he's been doing it since he was a kid, whether he needed the item he was taking or not.
The 25-year-old, who has now racked up six felonies and four misdemeanours, pleaded with the judge for home arrest but was ordered back to jail for six months.
"I'm not the best criminal," he told the judge.
