Man's Unpaid Bar Tab Leads To Child Porn Arrest
A 24-year-old Wisconsin man who left his cell phone at a bar as collateral for an outstanding tab has been charged with possession of child pornography after a bartender found explicit pictures on the phone.
According to the police complaint, Aaron R. Klein was at a local bar until 2 AM and rang up a bar tab of $57.75.
Klein said he couldn't pay, so he left his phone as collateral and said he would come back the next day to pay the bill in full and collect his phone.
But when Klein left, the bartender, who claims he was searching for Klein's name or number on the phone, found seven pornographic images of children that had been downloaded to the phone.
So after he called police, officers came to the bar and waited for Klein to return. When Klein showed up to pay his bill, officers took him into custody.
He was arrested for possession of child pornography and possession of narcotic drugs after police found two OxyContin pills and a straw on him.
Once officers went to Klein's home, they found even more with 300 to 400 images on his computer.
Klein has been charged with seven counts of child pornography.
He now faces a maximum 25-year prison sentence, a fine of up to $100,000 or both.
