Curry Powder Spill Causes Panic, Closes City Bypass
Two wayward bags of orange powder that appeared near Suncorp Stadium in Australia caused panic after stinging a man's eyes and causing city traffic gridlock before it was found to simply be curry powder.
Five fire and rescue trucks responded to the report of a bag of orange powder spilled across the road in the afternoon.
A scientific crew that was sent after them to identify the substance then got stuck in the traffic caused by the spill to make the problem worse.
The rescue service then started to hear complaints from people nearby of 'being affected' by the substance, and a man complained of 'stinging' in his eyes.
Traffic was closed in both directions for about an hour, and with a major artery blocked, traffic jammed in both directions.
When the scientific crew finally arrived, they wore breathing apparatus as they examined the powder and were surprised to find the substance was just curry powder. A spokeswoman said the final investigation concluded the powder was 'most likely paprika'.
