Teacher Has Sex With Student On Field Trip

A former world history teacher has been arrested for having sex with a 16-year-old male student during a field trip.

The 44 year-old teacher, Janet Klatt, was arrested and charged with sexual activity between a school staff member and a student.

Investigators said Klatt, who taught at the 'Cannon School' in North Carolina, was discovered having sex with the student at the local Clarion Hotel during the overnight trip.

There is no evidence that the student was forced to have sex, but it is illegal in North Carolina for a teacher to have sex with a student."Consent doesn't enter into this. "That type of relationship is specifically forbidden by law regardless of what the surrounding circumstances might be", said police spokesman Jim Sughrue.

Police said they had been investigating the incident since school administrators reported it a few weeks ago.
