Customer Subdues Robber With Applesauce
A customer at a city grocery in Philadelphia stopped an armed robber by tackling and beat him with a can of applesauce when he refused to drop his gun.
About 15 customers were in 'Gomez Grocery' when the gunman walked, jumped on top of a small freezer and pointed the gun at store owner Eddie Gomez.
Customer Thomas Santana, a 66 year-old, grabbed the 6-foot-1 gunman from behind when he was on the freezer and knocked him down with the help of store owner Gomez and the applesauce.
The suspect, 23-year-old Thomas Reyes, shot himself in the head during the struggle, and passed out after the he was hit with four blows to the head with the can.
He is expected to live to tell the story.
