Zidane's Headbutt Spawns Chart Topping Song
A song called 'Headbutt' ('Coupe de Boule' in French) written the day after the World Cup final is set to become the smash hit of the summer in France less than three weeks after its release.
The track, inspired by France's star player Zinedine Zidane, who was sent off in the final for headbutting Italy's Marco Materazzi, was written in 30 minutes by three despondent French fans.
Now, "Headbutt" is the most downloaded track in France over the last two and a half weeks with 80,000 downloads. Distributors said it would be highest selling in France this week judging by mid-week sales figures from supermarkets.
Two brothers wrote the song to cure their post-defeat disappointed including a chorus of 'Zidane, il a tape' (Zidane, the hit man).
Other Light-hearted lyrics poke fun at hapless striker David Trezeguet, who missed in the penalty shootout which decided the final, and recall Zidane's heatbutt which earned the French captain a red card.
The song will be distributed in other countries with different versions planned. But so far there is only the French version, which you can listen to here.
