Korean Pimps Get Around Law With 'Sex Dolls'
South Korea's police are pondering an interesting new trend and asking themselves whether pimping of inflatable sex dolls breach the country's anti-prostitution laws.
It appears a growing number of South Korean's have developed a taste for "doll experience rooms", paying 25,000 won per hour (about $26) for use of a bed, computer, and a sex doll.
The market has apparently taken off after a ban on prostitution came into effect in 2004.
The Koren paper carrying the story says it started with "certain motels were providing the dolls to customers to bridge the gap". It turned out to be so successful that many dedicated sex doll establishments followed.
A police spokesperson isn't too sure whether the law is being broken but says: "We are currently looking into whether these businesses violate the law. Since the sex acts are occurring with a doll and not a human being, it is unclear whether the Special Law on Prostitution applies".
