Owner To Remove 'Woman's Mouth' Urinals
After facing pressure from politicians and women's groups who demanded their removal, the Austrian owner said he would get rid of urinals shaped like a woman's mouth from a public toilet in Vienna.
The urinals, which are located in the "Opera Toilet," a lavishly decorated public restroom near Vienna's national opera, feature thick, lipsticked lips, a set of teeth and a bright red tongue.
"We think that it's tasteless, misogynistic and offensive", a spokeswoman for the Vienna Department of Women's Affairs said.
"The owner thinks the idea is funny", she said.
Monika Vana, a Green Party's spokeswoman for women's affairs, also denounced the toilets, telling the Austria Press Agency that they were "sexist and inappropriate".
Finally, in an interview Thursday with Austrian public radio, the owner of the toilet's said he would remove the urinals.
"If there is such outrage in Austria then it's not a problem", he said. "We will remove them in the next 14 days".
For some reason, the Women's Affairs spokesperson found it odd that no men had complained about the urinals. "The thing that surprises us the most is that no man has ever said anything about this", she said.
UPDATE:
The four urinals were sold this weekend for a total of nearly 7,000 US dollars (3,600 pounds). The owner says that the amount was at the lower end of the range of his expectations and he plans to donate a quarter to charity.
