'Dead' Woman Leaves Hospital, Shocks Family

An Austrian woman who discharged herself from hospital finally found out why her family did not visit her over Christmas after she found them busy arranging her funeral.

Sixty-four year old Herzlinde Eissler had been admitted with stomach pains to a hospital in lower Austria. But apparently, hospital confusion led to Eissler's family being wrongly told that she had died.

It happened as her son Leopold Eissler went to the hospital to visit his mother shortly before Christmas but he was told she was dead. He then spent the following festive period organising her funeral.

"I'm not sure whether to be delighted because my mother is alive or furious that they could have made such a mistake at the hospital", he says.

"At least it explains why they could not find the body when we wanted to pay our last respects".

"I could not believe it when she walked in through the front door and the whole family were all sitting around dressed in black and planning the funeral".
