Australian Private Investigators Paid To Have Sex
Australian council officials have been paying private investigators thousands of dollars to have sex with prostitutes to 'gather the evidence needed to shut down illegal brothels'.
It is reported that nine local councils in Sydney have spent over $18,000 on 'undercover agents' over the past three years in an attempt to root out the illicit trade.
One senior official interviewed said it is a necessary expense. The detectives had to actually have sex with the prostitutes to provide reports to satisfy the courts, he said.
"The only difference between us closing down an illegal panel beating shop and a brothel is we must prove they are doing the act and this is where it gets interesting. We have to employ private investigators to actually go through with the act and come up with reports that will suffice in a court process", explained Nick Ebbeck, the mayor of Kuringai council.
At a cost of about $3,500 per case, the detectives provide an affidavit, a detailed account of the transaction, and sometimes, video footage.
Licensed brothels are not unheard of in Sydney but officials want to close down a number of illegal premises that operate around the city.
