Miami Gets Ready For Super Bowl 'Halftime Flush'
Miami civic officials today asked residents to time their trips to the bathroom during the Super Bowl because extra flushing at halftime will 'put added stress on the sewers'.
The city says that to be on the safe side, people should delay their trips to the bathroom because the so-called 'Halftime Flush' could lead to clogs, worsen leaky toilets and lower water pressure.
"It might make things a little easier on us if people go before halftime or shortly after", a spokesman for the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department says.
It is estimated that at halftime of the Super Bowl, 90 million people across the United States will flush about 350 million gallons (1.3 billion litres) of water down the toilet at the same time.
Just to give you an idea, that's how much water flows over the Niagara Falls every 39 minutes.
