Philadelphia Streets Could Get Rubber Sidewalks
A Philadelphia official wants the city council to look at whether the city's sidewalks should be made of rubber instead of concrete.
Philadelphia city councilman Jim Kenney recently toured Chicago to see environmentally-friendly city projects there. And now he's come back with a number of new ideas on which he plans to hold hearings.
One of them is using rubber for sidewalks.
Although you won't see people bouncing down the street as Kenney says the rubber is very solid probably harder than a running track.
The rubber sidewalks are made from recycled tires so they don't crack, and they last longer than concrete.
Another bonus? He says rubber sidewalks could also reduce the number of slip-and-fall accidents in the city.
