Aussies Told To Get A Vasectomy For Valentine's

Australian men are being urged to forget the traditional gifts of chocolates and flowers this Valentine's Day in favour of an ever-lasting present: a vasectomy.

An Australian health charity called on men today to go under the knife to give their women the gift that keeps on giving: "A vasectomy is perhaps not as romantic as chocolate and roses, but not having to worry about contraception is a present many women would appreciate", said a spokeswoman.

"The procedure is safe, effective, cost-effective and saves women from taking responsibility for contraception. Many couples have actually found greater sexual freedom once they no longer have the worry of contraception or an unplanned pregnancy", she added.

But she admitted the unusual gift may be a hard sell for most men, specially after a local survey in which 24 percent of men believed that a vasectomy is "really painful".
