Man Sues For $20,000 Over Lesbian Sex Book 'Trauma'
The father of two teenage boys in Arkansas wants $20,000 from his city for the "trauma" sustained by his sons when they found a book on lesbian sex on a public library bookshelf. ![]()
Earl Adams also wants the library director to be fired. He says the boys, aged 14 and 16, were searching for material on military academies but instead came across "The Whole Lesbian Sex Book".
Adams says that finding the books "greatly disturbed" his sons and that the book caused "many sleepless nights in our house".
So Adams faxed a letter to Mayor Bob McCaslin saying the book is "patently offensive and lacks any artistic, literary or scientific value." But city attorney says Adams' claim is baseless because the book is not pornographic.
The library's board voted to pull the book from circulation after the incident and find a replacement, hoping it could be replaced with one that takes a more clinical approach. If no replacement could be found, the board said, it would simply go back on the shelf.
Adams wrote in an e-mail to reporters that he would fight any effort to put the book back in circulation, threatening "legal action and protests from the Christian community".
