Locksmith Glues Neighborhood Locks To Boost Business
A Taiwan locksmith has been arrested for gluing local residents' door locks to boost his own business.
The locksmith, identified only as Chen, was arrested in western Taiwan after police caught him riding a stolen motorcycle and found glue and stickers advertising his locksmith business in the motorcycle's toolbox.
Police said an investigation found that Chen has been using the glue to bond the door locks at about 100 homes in the city so the residents would call him to replace their locks.
Chen, who has been charged with fraud, apparently sneaked into apartment buildings and squeezed the glue into the holes of some locks, then put stickers on the wall bearing the words, "Locksmith, 24 hours on call" and his telephone number.
When the residents returned home and found they could not open their doors, they would call Chen to replace their locks.
Chen told police business has been bad in recent months, which made him use tricks to boost business.
